Road Tripping to Las Vegas

With our bags packed it was time to leave LA.  After finalising everything at Howard Johnson and bags in the car we were ready to go.

We had a few detailed maps and some instructions from the staff and we felt fairly confident.  We had it all under control until we entered the freeway heading South and we needed to be going North.  No need to panic we just headed to the next exit and changed directions, all good.

So heading North we followed the CA 57 N to Pomona then on to the CA 60 E and then the I 15 N.  It was straight through from there.

We made a pit stop at Starbucks and before we knew it the girls were using the free wi-fi to post on Instagram and Facebook.

Back on the road again there was a lot of desert.  Interesting fact:- the trucks have their own lane on the outside and are only allowed to travel at 55 miles.

This photo reminds me of long ago arts classes and the good old vanishing point.

As we were a little later leaving than I had an anticipated we changed our plans and decided to go straight into Vegas.  But unfortunately we had no maps for that and it wasn't as easy as you might think. Needless to say we got a wee bit lost.  After back tracking on the service road we still weren't sure and thought it was time to ask for help.  We pulled into a McDonalds thinking we could use the wi-fi but David asked the cashier where Excalibur was and she said we were so close.  She took us outside and and pointed up the road and there it was.  She was a lovely person.

So over the free way we went and pulled up at the hotel not more than a couple of mins.

We parked the car and took our bags in.

We were checked into the Royal Tower level 25 room 173.  This is the view from our room.

The car needed to be returned to Hertz at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and on the way we went via the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign.  There was a man taking photos for tips.

After the car was done we headed out The strip and took in some of the sights.

As we headed back to the hotel for dinner we couldn't resist stopping at M&M world.

With tired feet we went back to our Hotel for dinner.
