Fly, Fly, Fly Away

The day is finally here!!!!  We were up nice and early with a few last things to pack and we were out the door at 6 am.  We had decided to park at David's work and catch a taxi from there to the airport.  A maxi taxi arrived and we loaded our 6 bags in and we were off.

We arrived at the airport at 7am, 3 hrs before our flight.  David had done most of our checkin on the Qantas app, so checkin was fairly quick.  We checked our bags only weighing about 13kg each.

We then went through customs without any hassle.

The wait was filled by having breakfast and window shopping and before it was time to board.

We were able to move a little further up in the plane from our initial booking.  We were over to wing and 2 rows from the middle bathroom.

It was a long cramped trip and no one got any sleep.  I watched Major Crimes season 4.  Everyone else watched movies.  The food was good and plenty of it.

As we approached LA we were more than ready to get off.

We arrived at LAX earlier than expected at 5.40am although we had to wait until 6am as that's when the airport opens.  The airport was quite but the wait a little long to get through customs.  It takes a while to get through customs due to the fact they do bio metric scan including finger printing, not for Hayley though it only starts at 14.

We then went to carousel 1 to collect our bags which had all arrived in one piece.  One more check point and we were in Los Angeles.

We made our way to the shuttle pick up zone.  Even though the wait wasn't long we were surprised that a few shuttles went past without stopping.  Eventually we were on our way joining the many others on the freeway.  We had a full van with another family from Australia.  It was a little scary with the driver texting/map reading on his phone but we made it.

Arriving at our hotel by 8am we were so very happy to be told that we were able to check in early (supposed to be 3pm) as our room was ready.

We had a quick shower and headed over to Disneyland.
