San Francisco Day 1

Today was an easy start, breakfast at IHOP and then a short walk to the Big Bus Stop 16 to catch the 10.10 bus to the visitors centre.

The Big Bus here in San Francisco was not as good as Las Vegas as there wasn't a guide just earphones, it was a little disappointing.

We hopped at Stop 5 Union Square then walked up a really big steep hill to the Cable Car Museum on Mason Street.  I only got photos with the big camera.  We then jumped on the Hyde-Powell line of the cable car and enjoyed the stunning view on the way down to Fishermans Wharf.  The cable car was packed and once again only got photos with the big camera.

A quick spot of shopping where the girls bought San Francisco jumpers and then we were walking at a very fast pace to catch our ferry to Alcatraz.

We made it to Pier 33 with enough time to have a quick bite to eat before we were on the boat to Alcatraz Island.

Once we arrived on the island we were free to roam and explore all the areas open to the public.  The upper level of the prison has a self audio tour which tells the tales of the Wardons, Officers and some of the more infamous inmates.

We were on the island for a good 3 hours along with lot of other people.  It was very crowded.  It was a great visit and we are so glad we put it on our list of things to do in San Francisco.

Back from the island we walked along the wharf just bidding time until our Big Bus Night tour began.  We had Johnny Rockets for dinner.

On the bus and waiting for the tour to begin we no idea of how cold it is going to be.  The tour begins about 7 pm and the sun is not yet set.

Walt Disney Museum

Crissy Field with the city in the back ground.

As the sun has not yet set we are treated to extra special treat not usually on the program and taken to a wonderful vantage point to see the sunset with the Golden Gate as the backdrop.  Wonderful.

The sun went down fairly quickly after that and we traveled around the city and towards the end we across the Oakland Bay Bridge to Tresure island.  I was unable to get any photos as I was to concerned about my phone being blown out of my hands as it was so windy and very cold.

The city skyline from Treasure Island so worth the freezing weather.

As we travelled back over the bridge we couldn't wait to get back to the visitors centre.  We caught a cab back to the Chelsea Inn, we'd had a full and satisfying day.
